The Mayfield modified girls basketball team is sending a special valentine to a friend more than 1,500 miles away. As YNN's Maria Valvanis explains, the girls raised money to help a former teammate with a heart condition.

MAYFIELD, N.Y. -- The team yelled, “This game’s for you! !we love you Anna!”

Basketball jerseys were replaced with red t-shirts for both the players and most fans.

“We're having a benefit game for Anna King who moved to Texas last year and found out she has a heart condition,” said Sydney Sheldon.

Camryn Meca said, “She loves playing sports and basketball was one of her favorites.”

But since being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopthay, 13-year-old Anna has had to quit most sports while she patiently waits for a heart fit for a King.

Anna's uncle, Dayton King, said, “Anna's still on the donor list. She's been there for almost 300 days at this point.”

“This was their last home game. They really wanted to do something special to let her know we're thinking about her and hopefully raise some money in the process,” said Lori Meca.

The girls say they hope, more than anything, this game reminds Anna that no matter the distance, she's always a part of this team.

Camryn Meca said, “I hope we all play with our hearts out and play like she would playing with us.”

“I think it's just fantastic that even though she's gone, the community still rallies for them,” said King.

Her team back home says they're in this fight together.

Sheldon said, “Everyone still thinks about her and loves her very much.”

Lori Meca said, “She is definitely the kind of kid you just meet one time and know she is just going to be somebody.”
