STATEWIDE -- Governor Andrew Cuomo provided another update on Sandy recovery efforts across the state. The governor said that between 98 and 99 percent of New Yorkers have had their power restored.

Cuomo said the remaining people without power will not have it restored until damages are repaired to their homes. The Governor reminded New Yorkers of both short term and long term sheltering programs that are available through FEMA.

Areas with large amounts of residents without power include Nassau County on Long Island, the Rockaways, and Brooklyn.

"These are homes in the heavily impacted flooded areas that have in most cases been inspected or reviewed, and the decision has been made that power can't be turned on. So, we're at a point now, where the situation is going to shift from a power issue, restoration of power if you will, to a housing issue," said Cuomo at Monday's press conference.

Cuomo is seeking an additional $30 billion in aid from the federal government. The storm as inflicted roughly $50 billion in damage to the New York area. President Obama is expected to visit New York on Thursday to announce a rebuilding program for the area.
