An estimated 125,000 people watched the walk in person from both sides of the border on Friday. That includes about 4,000 people who got a great view of the walk from Goat Island in Niagara Falls. As YNN's Ryan Whalen reports, they were proud to be a part of history.

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Only the 4,000 people that got free vouchers online would be able to watch Nik Wallenda from Terrapim Point. Some spectators came out early, hoping to score the coveted tickets, but they were hard to come by.

"This is the biggest thing going on here even. We're still going to be a part of it, whether we're right here, up there or over there," said Glen Hurell, a spectator.

The area was cleared out and only people who had wristbands were allowed back in. One man was initially told he would not get one, because his daughter who got the vouchers could not come.

"A happy ending, the supervisor recognized the situation and she authorized me," said Anand Choudri of Rochester.

In the end, thousands of people got a front row seat for Wallenda's trek across the falls. For many in Niagara Falls, they said it was the most exciting event they have ever been to.

"It's so nice that Nik Wallenda is doing this for our city. I know it's his dream, but it's our dream too, because it brings the spotlight to Niagara Falls," said Dawn Marasco of Niagara Falls.

"I can't believe so many people are here," said Calista Legault, also of Niagara Falls. "You know, I'm walking around and there's people from China. I hear people from Italy. I hear people speaking Spanish. There are so many cultures here to watch this."
