KINGSTON, N.Y. -- In Kingston, nearly 100 jobs are on the line as residents vote on a proposed $143 million budget for their school district.

The district's tax levy increase would be 2.49 percent under the 2012-2013 budget. The plan would cut 92 full-time jobs would but add an assistant for superintendent business position. Some of those positions are at Meagher Elementary, which the school board voted to close at the end of the school year. Students and the remaining staff will move to John F. Kennedy Elementary School.

Some say the cuts are tough to make, but that the budget is a fair one.

School Board Trustee Kristen Uhl said, "In this climate and this environment that we have, it's a fair budget. I think the most important thing at this point is that every program that we have for the children is still being offered."
Polls will be open at district elementary schools until 9 p.m.
