GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- One day after making a stop in Fulton County, Congressman Bill Owens paid a visit to the North Country.

Following a brief meeting at City Hall with Glens Falls Mayor Jack Diamond and other city officials, the Democrat from Plattsburgh toured downtown Wednesday morning.

Owens currently represents the 23rd Congressional District, but if re-elected in November, he will represent the newly formed 21st Congressional District, which includes the northern edge of the Capital Region.

Owens calls these visits essential in his quest to learn the issues of what will soon become the state's largest geographical district.

"It's absolutely critical to get on the ground because you hear and learn things that you would simply not do if you're not out there visiting with people. So I think this is a critical part of what we do and we spend a lot of time in the current district doing the same thing," Owens said.

Owens won his seat in Congress in a special election in November 2009. It's his first time in public office. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
